Lunch Ticket: 10 Questions with Alex Temblador

Read this great interview with our extremely talented (and popular!) teaching artist Alex Temblador over at Lunch Ticket. Gail Vannelli asks some great questions and Alex talks about forging a nontraditional path to success as a writer. The interview is full of writerly wisdom about the grit, determination, and perseverance that it takes to sustain a writing life and find success along the way!

"My mentors taught me that a literary career doesn’t have to be traditional. This could mean publishing with small houses, foregoing a literary agent until after a few books have been published, submitting your work to a literary contest, or self-publishing. In that vein, my advice for the emerging writer is this: If publishing is your goal, you don’t have to be the best writer—you just need to work the hardest. Don’t listen to those who tell you that your book will never be published or find success. Don’t crumble under the pressures this career throws at you. I’m forging a nontraditional path to success and doing everything in my power to make it work, not just for my own achievements, but so I can be a model for those who follow behind me." -Alex Temblador
