You Don't Need To Come To Dallas To Be A Part Of WWD

Joining the WWD Community Digitally

At WWD, we’re committed to the idea of building a thriving literary community in Dallas, but we also know that there are plenty of talented aspiring writers that don’t live within driving distance of our home. That’s why we offer classes and seminars online and make a concerted effort to create a digital space that’s not just an afterthought, but a viable and nurturing option for a writer looking for a space to learn and master their craft.

Online classes for almost every genre and career

We understand that writing can often be a solitary task, but that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Our instructors are journalists, novelists, poets and authors who have paid their dues and earn their living at their craft. They are also available and willing to help aspiring writers hone their talents, find their muse and bring their art to life.

We offer a wide variety of online courses ranging from eight weeks to six months long with topics including writing personal essays, memoirs, short stories, novels, and courses on revision. The course list changes every eight weeks and sometimes even more frequently, as the schedules of the various instructors allow, but rest assured that there will be something for you without a prohibitive commute.

Small class size is key both on-site or online

Just like our onsite classrooms in Richardson, the virtual classrooms are kept small and intimate by limiting the number of students with most classes limited to as few as eight students. The point is to allow our instructors the time and availability to connect with and teach students on a highly individual and personal level. Students are given assignments and work at their own pace in meeting deadlines and other requirements, but we make sure that when you’re in class, it feels like you are in the room with your classmates and instructor.

Staying involved digitally through Wet Ink

We are proud to use Wet Ink, a digital platform designed to build “engaging workshops and classrooms centered on written assignments,” for our online classes. Wet Ink was built with the goal of allowing students to get the feel of being in a classroom with the instructor and other students from the comfort and convenience of their own home or workplace.

Wet Ink has many tools and features that keep students and instructors engaged and involved with one another while completing their course of study and offers an incredibly deep level of feedback, lesson planning and communication for students and teachers. Wet Ink's website offers prospective students an online demo to help them understand and better utilize those many features

All of this allows us to create a highly interactive teaching environment that lets us connect with our students on a personal level. It’s not just text on a screen or static rounds of edits, but a dynamic conversation happening to take your work to the next level. It makes you truly a part of the Writing Workshops Dallas community regardless of where you are.

Thanks in large part to Wet Ink, Writing Workshops Dallas and its cadre of professional writers and educators are now available to aspiring writers everywhere, and not just those who live in or near the greater Dallas area.
