This is a 3-month Individual Mentorship that includes bi-monthly 1-on-1 meetings with Sarah. This mentorship will meet you where you are as a poet and build concepts and skills, including:
- The importance of consistent writing and reading practice
- Writing poems that have something meaningful to say
- Writing poems that communicate clearly with a reader
- Creating space for poems to develop over time
The ideal applicant for this mentorship will be someone who is willing to dedicate themselves to both reading and writing contemporary poetry that communicates meaningfully with a reader while also developing their own unique voice and perspective as a poet. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of engaging in poetry as a process that requires attention to detail and patience in revisions.
Mentees will set their own, unique goals with Sarah, but may focus on writing new work, developing a series of poems into a chapbook or full-length collection, or revising a series of poems toward publication. To that end, mentees will be expected to not only write and revise but read current, contemporary poetry that is similar in scope and style to their own work as assigned.
Upon acceptance into the mentorship program, you will schedule an initial one-on-one call or Zoom session with Sarah to discuss where you are in your poetry journey and to set goals for the 3-month mentorship.
You will then meet biweekly with Sarah to talk about your reading and writing.
