Led by novelist Michael Bourne, a long-time contributing editor to Poets & Writers Magazine and staff writer at The Millions, and author of the debut novel Blithedale Canyon (Regal House, June 2022).
After years of hard work, you’ve finished a book – now all you have to do is sell it.
We’ll drill deep on how literary agencies work, how to craft a query, who to send it to, and how to get on gatekeepers’ radar.
Michael comes at this subject as a fellow writer hoping to help rationalize what can seem an irrational – and, yes, maddening – process. Michael has interviewed dozens of agents for Poets & Writers, and he has shopped two books. He understands the sting of rejection, but more importantly, thanks to his years of reporting, he understands why agents pass on manuscripts and what writers can do to get an agent to yes.
At the conclusion of this seminar, you’ll be able to draft or sharpen your query letter and fine-tune your pitch to help you find your dream agent.
Q&A to follow Michael's presentation.
