Today, we're catching up with David Hopkins, who attended Amber Sparks' Fractured Narrative workshop.
David is a fantasy novelist with an interest in medieval history, fairy tales, and myth. He is the author of The Dryad’s Crown, a nine-part novella series set in the vast world of Efre Ousel. Of the series, Kirkus Reviews wrote that "Hopkins writes graceful and sinewy prose that vividly describes action, emotion, and inner life." BookLife (an Editor's Pick) said David's series is "A fantasy unlike any other." David is currently working on Book 5 in the series and his short fiction was recently published in Infinite Worlds Magazine. He also wrote a viral article on how the TV show Friends Triggered the Downfall of Western Civilization.
After college, David started writing comic books. He pursued it for several years. He then started writing for a few magazines, mostly features. It was journalism, but it was all narrative. David interviewed people and told their stories. This was where he honed his craft as a writer. The editors he worked with helped him become better. He began following the bylines closely. He became friends with some of those incredible writers. But ultimately, David came around to what he’s always wanted to write, which is fantasy and speculative fiction. He found his voice through comics and journalism. Now, he spends most of his time thinking about the novel he’s writing and the twenty more he wants to write.
We're rooting for you, David! Thank you for letting us be part of your writing journey.
