We love to celebrate the continued success of our alumni, and today we're spotlighting E.E. Hussey, whose short story "Spider Fight" appears in the Winter 2025 issue of The Kenyon Review. This publication in one of America's most prestigious literary magazines marks another milestone in E.E.'s flourishing writing career.

E.E.'s talent and dedication have earned her impressive recognition in the literary world. Her debut novel, Hafa Adai, is forthcoming from Curbstone Books, and we are thrilled to cheer E.E. on.

Born in the Philippines and raised in Japan and Italy, E.E. brings a rich, global perspective to her work. Her international background and experiences living across various U.S. cities infuse her writing with unique cultural insights and universal themes that resonate with readers.

E.E.'s commitment to her craft has been recognized through support from prestigious organizations including Tin House, Bread Loaf Environmental Writers' Conference, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing.

Currently serving as a visiting assistant professor of English and creative writing at Sewanee: The University of the South, E.E. will soon begin a new chapter as an assistant professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this fall.

The Kenyon Review, where E.E.'s "Spider Fight" appears, has a storied history as one of the most influential literary magazines in the English-speaking world. Founded in 1939 under the vision of poet Roberta Teale Swartz and Kenyon College president Gordon Keith Chalmers, the publication has featured work by literary giants and continues to showcase exceptional writing under the editorship of Nicole Terez Dutton.

We're amazed—though not surprised—by E.E.'s well-deserved success. We had the great pleasure of supporting E.E.'s work in our short fiction workshop in 2017, and even then, it was clear that E.E. was destined for great things.

Congratulations, E.E.! We can't wait to read Hafa Adai and follow your bright career!
