Taught by Blaise Allysen Kearsley, a Black-biracial writer and teacher based in Brooklyn. Her writing has appeared in Catapult, Longreads, the Boston Globe, Electric Literature's The Nervous Breakdown, Elle, Midnight Breakfast, The Weeklings, and in the anthologies Mortified: Real Words. Real People. Real Pathetic, Nonwhite and Woman, and Cringe: Teenage Diaries, Journals, Notes, Letters, Poems, And Abandoned Rock Operas. Blaise is a contributing editor at Vestal Review, the oldest flash fiction journal on the planet.

This virtual workshop is for writers of all levels who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color. Each session functions as a space for building community with other BIPOC writers and creatives, a weekly invitation to show up for ourselves and for each other, to stand in our stories, translate our lived experiences onto the page, and allow our voice, mind, and heart to take us wherever they need us to go, and identify rituals and conditions that anchor us in our writing practice.

Rather than focusing on formal feedback, this generative workshop offers prompts, short text, visual art, mindfulness, and discussion to help us dig into a range of ideas, sensations, themes, subjects, and tools of the craft and cultivate a writing practice. We will set intentions and identify the conditions that allow us to converse with our most creative and imaginative selves.
