Your Writing Matters
You're a writer with something important to say. Whether you're working on your first draft or your fifth manuscript, you know there's a story inside you that deserves to be told—and told well.
But here's what you're up against:
You're facing real challenges. The visceral, electric current that makes readers feel something is missing. You wonder if your voice is strong enough, if your ideas are original enough, if you're good enough.
You feel isolated. Writing is a solitary act, but it doesn't have to be a lonely journey. You crave feedback from writers who understand the struggle. You need readers who can see what your work could become. You want mentors who've walked this path before.
You deserve better. Every writer deserves access to world-class instruction, meaningful community, and a clear path to publication—not just those who can afford expensive MFA programs or live near major literary hubs.
We Understand Because We've Been There
At WritingWorkshops.com, we know what it's like to stare at a rejection letter, to wonder if you're wasting your time, to feel disconnected from the literary world.
That's why we've built something different.
Our instructors aren't just successful authors—they're National Book Award finalists, Pulitzer nominees, New York Times bestsellers, and contributors to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Best American series. But more importantly, they remember what it was like to be where you are now.
Our students prove what's possible. They've signed with agents, published books, been selected for the TODAY book club, Read with Jenna, won prestigious fellowships & literary awards, and earned spots in top MFA programs. But they all started with the same questions you have today.

Testimonials
"The Storytelling Lab with Robert Anthony Siegel was great. Robert is wonderful, especially his insights into detail, structure, and meaning. I think you guys are phenomenal in developing such a wide range of interesting and informative workshops. They are so accessible for all types of learners."
"The Short Story Submission Boot Camp with Kelly Luce was an absolutely great class-I really appreciated the support and insight. Kelly had great expertise, and I felt very pushed by the feedback but also motivated. Loved the curated resources for submission."
"I love Kyle Minor's classes. He gives both direct bullet points of information plus wonderful examples including anecdotes from his own life. The pairing of the two is invaluable."
"I was in Jonathan Small's Writing Nonfiction Stories that Sell seminar and it was awesome! Some of the most practical bits of info and steps I've ever received in such a short stretch of time. Thank you for that! Thanks again for that informative brain dump! I feel newly focused and invigorated. Jonathan is human adderall."
"I really enjoyed Comp Titles seminar with lit agent Mark Owen Gottlieb. The depth of useful information and openness to questions from all kinds of writers was so valuable. I think Mark drove home not only how important comp titles are for agents and publishers, but also how important it is to choose the right comp titles. Taking into account sales numbers and year published was a great lesson! I am also bowled over by Mark's generosity towards all of us frantic debut authors. I keep thinking that this agent has sold so many bestsellers and - wow! - he's taking the time to help us out so thoroughly. That in itself is a very cool feeling. We are all at different stages and he is helpful to all of us. I also like the nice online community generated by the teacher. After the class, I wish we could all go out for a drink or coffee and keep talking!"
"I took Caitlin Kunkel's Mine Your Life for Funny Ideas seminar hoping to build a more intentional foundation for my comedy writing, and the class far exceeded my expectations! The level of engagement was incredibly helpful. Forming ideas firsthand in the workshop gave me a solid grasp of her tools and processes, and a sense of confidence I previously lacked. I can’t wait to continue future training and workshops with Caitlin!”
"Katie Reilly's Writing through Grief class was a transformative experience. Her thoughtful curriculum and supportive approach provided the perfect environment for exploring writing as a healing tool. The readings offered valuable insights into craft elements, while the Zoom discussions fostered a sense of community and shared understanding. Overall, this class exceeded my expectations and left me feeling energized and inspired. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with talented participants and learn from Katie's expertise."
"Kyle Minor led an engaging seminar titled 'Don't Bore Your Reader'. Kyle’s teaching style was super helpful. He taught a concept then showed us examples. It was awesome. I learned so much."
"Eraldo Souza dos Santos is a marvelous teacher -- quick to see the value in his students' work, and a fine guide in their intellectual and creative pursuits. He draws immediate, inspiring connections between what his students have produced and a multitude of published writers; his knowledge of international writers of many genres is remarkable. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with such a fine person. The material is so rich and Eraldo is a fine teacher."
"Working with Meredith Alloway in her Screenwriting 4-Week One-on-One Mentorship was a great experience and came just in time. I was stuck on my story for months. But after our first session, I gained new ideas and perspectives. We went deep into the details of my story and brainstormed new ideas. Meredith made sure to tailor the lessons according to my needs. Over the last few years, I took a lot of writing workshops but none of them gave me so much input as a one-on-one mentorship. By the end of the month, I had a clear structure and a better understanding of my characters. Thank you, Meredith!"
"Writing About Mental Illness with Jenee Skinner was an incredible class. Jenee was through and covered in-depth aspects of mental illness, and I looked forward to each class meeting. The readings she assigned were so thought-provoking, and the opportunity to write a 5,000-word narrative and recieve feedback from Jenee was great. The most valuable part of the class was Jenee's knowledge of the subject matter."
"Katie Reilly's approach to teaching is very tailored to the students -- she goes out of her way to find readings that align with the topics and styles that students express interest in. Her feedback is encouraging, constructive, and candid, and always very applicable and actionable. She's very motivating and being able to look forward to submitting a draft to her (and getting her feedback on it) has really helped me overcome my perfectionistic-anxiety-barrier to starting a piece. My experiences in her classes have been very generative and helpful in getting words on the page! What I found most valuable: Being able to ask Katie off-the-cuff questions during/after class and over email. Workshopping essay ideas with her and the other class members. Hearing from guest speakers (editors). Hearing from other people about how their own experience with grief informed their responses to the assigned readings."
"Kelly Luce’s Short Story Writing Boot Camp far exceeded my expectations. Kelly’s top of the line feedback was the most valuable feature of the program, which is a remarkable blend of developmental editing and line editing. And it’s targeted for maximum results. It covered everything I hoped for. One of Kelly’s strength is not taking on too much, rather, staying laser focused on helping her students write their best possible short story."
"I just completed the 6-week Artist Way class. It was stimulating, mind-opening, fun, and challenging all at same time. I highly recommend it for other artists to take. It helped me move out of my writer’s block, get another chapter completed along with the other assignments of the class itself. The participants were what mad the class for me—all interesting in themselves yet while we were all different, we all came together to understand that self-nurturing feds the inner artist. We all grew individually and as a group. It was a safe, supportive and very conducive to learning. Rex was a gentle guide that helped us all in the class identify resistance as fear and learn what that fear was all about. Many interesting new self-awareness arose from that process. As the class progressed deeper into the concepts and learning, Rex was skilled as bringing along each participant into higher productivity through more self awareness. I really enjoyed the class, got a lot from it personally and professionally. Now I resume my novel with more clarity, enthusiasm, and direction."
"The Portal with Sarah Herrington was incredible. Sarah's knowledge and expertise was invaluable, how she held space, wonderful guest teachers. Also the community aspect was awesome! It felt like virtual summer camp! It was meaningful for seasoned writers or newbies. I hope to do it again next year!"
"Ploi Pirapokin's Revision Intensive: Polish Short Stories for Submission far exceeded my expectations. I discovered new horizons in the process of writing and revising my short fiction, and Ploi covered way more than I anticipated. I highly recommend her class!"
"Marin Sardy’s Metaphor Magic class exceeded my expectations and then some. The most valuable part of the class? Two things: Her in-depth overview which defined metaphors and different types, and the last part where she guided us through 3 exercises helping us to create metaphors for our own works. This one was A+ and Marin could easily held my interest in a follow-up workshop with guided writing exercises. I love workshops that work on specific tools: Using metaphors in fiction, the writer’s superpower—using dialogue to accomplish several things at once, how to choose a time envelope for your project, understanding what a prologue is and is not and how to use them, disguise them, or simply pass them up. And so on for specific tools aspiring writers can put into their growing toolbox. I’m impressed with how much she covered in the time she had. Highly recommend for all writers and students."
"You asked if I would take another workshop. Of course. I can’t figure out how to stop taking them. They’re just damn good."
"Mark Gottlieb's discussions of what he looks for in a query letter were most helpful. His advice was much more helpful that a lot of what I've read on the internet, much of which is conflicting. His discussion of the publishing industry was also very enlightening. The example query letters he shared from published authors were also extremely valuable. Also, Mark's delivery and tone was very reassuring and helped calm my nerves about the querying process!"
"Sudden Truths: Writing Flash Memoir and Super-Short Personal Essays with Blaise Allysen Kearsley was such a good class! I especially loved the in-class exercises and Blaise's guidance over the six weeks. It truly exceeded my expectations. Thank you!"
"Karen E. Bender's Strategies for Story Beginnings seminar exceeded my expectations! Karen is an excellent teacher: she is patient, explains all her materials well and provides valuable examples and feedback. I really enjoy how Karen runs her courses. This is the second of hers I've taken, and I plan to take more. In fact, I recommended Karen's classes enough after the first one I took that a friend joined me for this one. Thank you again!"
"Shelby Hinte ran great classes each week - perfect mix of structure and freedom and always well organized and on time. Excellent communication before, during, and after class. I highly recommend her Toying with the Truth Generative Nonfiction class. Thanks, Shelby!"
"The best part about Shelby Hinte's Toying with the Truth class is how she facilitated a supportive community of writers. I learned so much, and enjoyed each week!"
"I would definitely recommend Toying with the Truth with Shelby Hinte. I have already recommended her upcoming classes to others. I think she is not only a good writer, but an excellent teacher. She knows how to encourage, deliver and inspire. Loved the exercises/warmups, Shelby's off script advice, and the workshops."
"In Toying with the Truth, Shelby covered so much (nothing left to be desired). What did I find most valuable? The community, workshop, and generative exercises. Thank you!"
"Toying with the Truth is one of the best classes I've taken. Everything seemed to work so well together: the prompts, reading aloud in class, and Shelby's ability to teach so well. This is a very comprehensive class."
"I am writing to tell you briefly about my experience in David Hopkins’ workshop Stealing From Shakespeare. I have found it very interesting and helpful for my writing. David is informed, organized, pleasant, and insightful in presenting this masters technique class. Compared to many other workshops I have taken over the years, he provides a greater density of useful insight in the time and supplements it with additional links and handouts for use after class. He’s funny, informed, and caring with the students which has made this a worthwhile opportunity. And then, there’s Shakespeare. It is rare that I write a review but I wanted to share my appreciation for the knowledge, preparation and care that this teacher has put into this course."
"I want to say that after having taken a couple of short classes and two of 4+ weeks, I've been quite impressed with the quality of the instruction. Mira Ptacin's class in particular was outstanding. She has a knack for creating a positive, engaging learning environment, yet she is very skilled at pointing out what will elevate the work into its best self. She seems to know every book and publication that exists, and she draws intriguing parallels between her students' work and that of known authors. She's warm and encouraging, but nobody's fool. I loved every minute of her class, and I hope she has more of them up her sleeve. Thanks again for these fantastic workshops. They feel like an MFA I can do at my own pace, and they feed a hunger in my writing soul. You've found an evangelist in me; I've been telling all of my writer pals about your program and how much of a difference it's making in this writer's life."
"I have taken a lot of writing classes, and Writing About Mental Illness with Jenee Skinner was the best. I would recommend this class to any writer who is thinking about signing up. Do it. You won't regret it. I would take another class with Jenee in an instant."
"Writing Nonfiction Stories that Sell was in incredibly thorough seminar. Jonathan Small is a great instructor, and I so appreciated the way he guided us through tips on the current submission market, and he left plenty of time for Q&A at the end, which was so helpful."
"I just completed The Storytelling Lab with Robert Anthony Siegal. It was great! The choice of reading material was excellent. Robert's interpretations of the texts were profound. He was also a great facilitator of our discussions, everyone felt heard and supported. This is the kind of class I would take again."
"Taking the Writing About Mental Illness workshop with Jenee Skinner was a transformative experience. Each week, Jenee’s insightful guidance and the carefully curated readings opened my eyes to new ways of understanding and portraying mental illness in my writing. I particularly appreciated the focus on defining what is "normal" for characters and the nuanced handling of trauma and memory. Jenee's expertise and passion made each session deeply engaging."
"Sudden Truths: Writing Flash Memoir and Super-Short Personal Essay with Blaise Allysen Kearsley exceeded my expectations. I learned a tremendous amount about personal essays mostly by example (which is much more interesting than by lecture). The instructor created a nurturing, supportive environment which isn't super easy in a zoom room. Before I started the class I wrote a personal essay on a difficult subject. I employed the second person. Although I never shared that essay in class, on the last day of the class, I looked that essay over and found I was ready, even eager, to claim my story by rewriting it in first person. This class did that for me."
"How to Write Exciting, Evocative, & Commercially Viable Historical Fiction with L.M. Elliott exceeded my expectations. Such a well structured class. I appreciated the specific examples of story-finding and research that inspired the instructor’s own writing. The casual Q&A at the end was also great. I also really enjoyed that Laura co-hosted with her son. They were really delightful together and Peter was able to offer some great insight on the publishing end."
"Jonathan Small's seminar on Writing Nonfiction Stories that Sell was amazing. Thanks to his teaching style, it was easily the best online course I've taken. His presentation was so clear and he has the heart of a great teacher. I would highly recommend his class."
"As a fiction writer, I found so much value in the Storytelling Lab with Robert Anthony Siegel. Throughout the class, great literary fiction was shared and discussed and the class in general exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this class with Robert!"
"I loved Sarah Carson's Revising Poetry workshop, especially her detailed suggestions and the practice we got in all the various ways one can revise a poem. It was also illuminating to see how other people did the exercises to revise their work. I feel like I have a real toolbox now."
"Jenee Skinner's Writing About Mental Illness workshop was exactly what I needed to push my writing to the next level. The course was well-organized, with each week building on the previous one, allowing us to delve deeply into topics like trauma, memory, and the complexities of mental illness. Jenee's feedback was always thoughtful and constructive, helping me to see my work in new ways. The readings were diverse and provided great examples of how different authors tackle the subject of mental illness. The community we built over the eight weeks was supportive and encouraging, making it a safe space to share our stories and grow as writers. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone looking to explore mental illness in their writing with sensitivity and depth."
"The best part about the Exploring Strategies for Story Beginnings seminar with Karen E. Bender were her insights, warmth, generosity, intelligence and the categories for types of story beginnings she presented to us. Karen is a wonderful instructor, and I've taken all of her seminars."
"I so enjoyed Mira Ptacin's Writing as Catharsis: Flash Memoir workshop. Mira is a fabulous leader/teacher/moderator for the group. The community of writers we had was an amazing group. And Mira's writing prompts were excellent."
"I just finished Ploi Pirapokin's Revision Intensive: Polish Short Stories for Submission workshop, and it was an excellent course. The most valuable part of this class was the incisive feedback from Ploi coupled with her in-depth lectures."
"Mira Ptacin's Micro-Memoir workshop was great. The readings and the prompts were excellent, and Mira's energy and enthusiasm really added to the class. One of my favorite classes!"
"How to Conceive and Structure Personal Essays with Antonio Ruiz-Camacho exceeded my expectations. I am currently working on putting together a collection of personal essays that I hope to be published either in book form, or as individual submissions to various print magazines and e-zines. Most valuable #1: I enjoyed the personal essays that were assigned for aloud reading (and I really enjoy reading "out loud" as we used to call it when I was a child). Those assigned essays served as appropriate examples of the gist of Camacho's presentation. Most valuable #2: I particularly found Camacho's explanation of what makes a personal essay unique exactly the motivation I need to want to write personal essays in the first place. Mr. Camacho spoke of intimacy, confession, vulnerability. I think I did say that I was toying with the idea of naming my collection Very Personal, Personal Essays. Mr. Camacho covered what I need to know as a novice when it comes to conception and structure of the personal essay, and I can always conduct independent research as it relates to crafting significant personal essays of my own, moving forward."
"Meg Eden Kuyatt's seminar, What They Don’t Tell You About Publishing: Submitting to Agents and Editors, was excellent. Meg had a wealth of experience to share with us, and provided a great resource to follow up on our learning. The most valuable part was Meg's detailed, step by step input/discussion about the publishing process + best questions to ask when interviewing a potential agent. Meg did a great job of making sure that she covered her planned content, but also covering all of my questions."
"I loved Robert James Russell's Visualizing Memories: Graphic Memoir workshop. Rob is a great teacher and created a community for us in his class. I learned a lot and loved that I had deadlines to finish work. I would highly recommend his class."
"I just finished Katie Reilly's Writing Through Parenthood class and it was a fantastic class. The small format made for an intimate environment lending to informed conversation and discussion. I missed one of the sessions due to a time conflict and I loved the ability to view the recording of the course so I would be fully prepared for the next class. I am always so thoroughly impressed with all the classes I take with Writing Workshops. Thank you!"
"Tawny, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for what was a chock-full-of-info book proposal seminar yesterday. I am so glad I came; it was worth my time in all respects! Thank you for being so generous and forthcoming and giving us so much knowledge about the book proposal process in such a clear and seamless way. I feel like every minute had something valuable to offer. My kind of seminar!"
"The Self-Publishing seminar with David Hopkins was great. It was a compressed encyclopedia of Everything I Wish I Had Known A Year Ago! Now I have a blueprint to follow and I'm excited to get started."
"What did I find most valuable about Elissa Bassist's Tragedy Plus Time seminar? All of it. The instructor was extremely funny and had many excellent resources to share."
"The How to Conceive & Structure Personal Essays seminar with Antonio Ruiz Comacho exceeded my expectations. Admittedly, I wasn't sure what to expect because it was my first class with you all, but Antonio's class was so interesting and informative! He covered everything and more about personal essays in his presentation and focused on details and provided great examples in the assigned readings. So far, I'm very impressed with Writing Workshops!"
"Chaya Bhuvaneswar has been so generous. The Short Story Collection Generator has left me with plenty to work on. I feel very fortunate I had the opportunity to join. The insights and feedback provided have truly transformed my approach to writing."
"When I started Rosebud’s workshop, I was looking to nurture a flare for creative writing that was in serious danger of dying out. Luckily, she was the perfect teacher to stoke that fire. Beyond putting together a syllabus that stretched our concepts of what poetry could be, she encouraged me and my peers to dip into the strange and the silly as we interpreted the prompts we were given. Her celebration of our growth and her thoughtful questions also gave me a model for feedback that I continue to employ when working through new writing with friends. I recommend to just about everyone I know that they try taking a workshop with Rosebud: she's a poet's poet, a teacher's teacher, and a champion for the kind of exploration, creativity, and fun that I needed to fall in love with writing again."
"I signed up for Karen E. Bender's Writing Memory seminar and I loved the class. She had a great presentation and got into the topic right away. No wasted time. A very thorough class that will help me build my character's interiority."
"Chaya Bhuvaneswar’s short story collection class was a turning point in my writing. She helped me tighten and improve individual stories, focusing on where to amplify tension and add critical details, but she also introduced me to thinking about how stories work together, how anchor stories can make or break a collection. She brought in remarkable authors and agents too, facilitating discussions that were not just interesting but also immediately applicable. We talked craft details with Kate McQuade and how to make the scary jump into a more writing-centered life with Maurice Carols-Ruffin. The class atmosphere was also so warm and supportive. I'm still in touch with my fellow writers to this day; having a dedicated group of folks to swap drafts with is magical."
"My mentorship experience with Chaya Bhuvaneswar was amazing! At the beginning, I was unsure if I was equipped to write in a new genre, but I've gained knowledge, tools, and confidence to continue on this path. The invaluable feedback I've received has helped me to grow as a writer and motivated me to continue on this journey. It's exciting! It's a wonderful experience that I recommend to other writers."
"Jenna Tang's Translation and Travel classes were terrific. Fantastic readings and very insightful comments from the Jenna in each class session. I've already recommended her classes to my writing friends."
"Antonio is a great instructor. I signed up for How to Conceive and Structure Personal Essays and it did not disappoint. He very clearly made the point about the details in the narrative expressing the experience. His example readings were great. For a short course, it was excellent."
"Ploi Pirapokin's class on Intensive Revision exceeded my expectations. She gave each student's work thoughtful critiques. Her lessons were wide and built from her years of her own study and practice. She opened all of our minds to new ways of thinking about our work. This was one of the best writing workshops I've ever taken in my 30 years of writing. Not only is her knowledge vast, she is a delightful and patient teacher with a great sense of humor. Ploi is a gem!"
"Katie Reilly's Writing Through Parenthood workshop was great. Her willingness to answer questions and the variety of readings made the class worth every penny. Also, Katie's feedback on my writing helped me tremendously. This is the second class I've taken with her, and highly recommend Katie as an instructor."
"While I have long enjoyed writing poetry, Lindsey’s clear, kind, and concise guidance truly inspires me to embrace the practice more, to let go and allow the creativity to move me into my love of poetry. Lindsey creates a kind, concise, and generous workshop in which all who care to participate can thrive. I wish for four more weeks, but out of gratitude for what I have already been given through Lindsey’s presence and kindness, I will not push the river and sincerely express my gratitude. Thank you so much, Lindsey!"
"I loved the class so much. It was very supportive and inspiring. We covered a lot of material, and I appreciate all the referrals for books, and I have purchased a number of them. One of the most helpful things was Lindsey's introduction to haiku. I feel that continuing to compose haiku will be the building block to advance my poetry. I see how beautiful, thoughtful things can be expressed in just a few plain words. I think that was such a phenomenal place to start. I would love to be in another class of Lindsey's. Her knowledge and love of poetry, your enthusiasm, and generosity really touched me! Thank you for sharing your joy with us."
"This was my first ever poetry class, and I couldn't ask for a better place to start. Lindsey introduced us to an endless source of inspiration and showed us ways to write about it. She's a very sensitive and supportive teacher. Highly recommended."
"It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of three classes with Lindsey Wayland."
“I want to thank Lindsey again for the wonderful impact she has had on me. Since I met Lindsey, I knew I wanted to work with her. If there is one word to describe Lindsey, it is grace. I immensely enjoyed taking a class with Lindsey. It was the highlight of my summer and time actually spent since I've moved to Port Townsend. I love to learn. I love to nourish my love of writing. I cannot tell you how much I looked forward each week to Lindsey’s unique classes. Each of the weeks I experienced new techniques and opportunities in writing. The class is a priceless gem. Thank you so very much. Soli dei gloria.”
“What a Great Delight to have Lindsey here and for me (and all) able to experience her and her vast trove of talent, with which she is so generous! What Luck!!!”
"Lindsey’s classes are a must for everyone wanting to take a deep breath and be intentional about beauty and creativity in their lives. Fun, inspirational, and really a gift to yourself!! Lindsey is a gentle, generous, and a real gem!!! This is art that you can incorporate into your everyday life."
"Courtney Kocak's Starting a Newsletter seminar exceeded my expectations. Courtney provided concrete advice and information - and it was so nice to have someone talk about writing in a more practical, functional, and business-oriented way. The class was truly useful. Thank you!"
"I took the 4-Week Online Prose Poetry Workshop: Writing the Prose Poem with Lindsay Tigue. This class definitely exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the variety and creativity of the prompts and the thoroughness of the material, both of which made me feel like I was constantly learning something new. I really appreciated the course structure and the depth of the material. It was helpful to have a lesson with plenty of reading material and examples before writing my own pieces."
"Chaya Bhuvaneswar's 12 week course about short story writing went beyond my expectations. Chaya's Incredible skill and generosity with her time re: short story writing and conveying it to each person during meetings with the entire class each week as well as meeting one to one with people who wanted to do that. She was willing to read two or more of our individual short stories and provide written feedback. Then, for those of us who already have enough short stories for a book, she read and commented on our entire books. I only wish the class was longer!"
"I loved 'The Practice of Revising Poetry' workshop with Sarah Carson! Each week, I found myself diving deeper into my work, uncovering layers I hadn’t noticed before. Sarah’s insightful feedback and the encouraging environment made all the difference. The readings and exercises were perfectly curated to push us further. This workshop has genuinely transformed my approach to poetry."
"Sarah Carson’s revision workshop was so good. The structured approach to revision, combined with the thought-provoking readings, helped me see my poems in a new light. The weekly discussions and feedback sessions were incredibly supportive and inspiring. I feel more confident and skilled in my ability to revise and refine my poetry."
"Participating in 'The Practice of Revising Poetry' with Sarah Carson was an enriching experience. Sarah’s expertise and the collaborative atmosphere allowed me to explore new possibilities in my writing. Each week's focus, from digging deeper into themes to experimenting with form, was enlightening. I now view revision as a crucial and exciting part of my poetry practice. Highly recommended!"
"I loved the Get Unstuck seminar with Jennifer Mattson. I found the prompts extremely valuable and enjoyed hearing her perspective and examples. It opened up my mind to the variety of ways a person can be a writer and helped me tune in more clearly to what I need to help me be productive. It was surprising how much I gained from just two hours. More than some multi-week courses I’ve taken!"
"The thoroughness in Courtney Kocak's Start a Newsletter to Supercharge Your Platform, Network & Business seminar was highly impressive and inspiring, as was the way in which she wove time for our brainstorming with examples. I will definitely recommend this class."
"Chaya Bhuvaneswar's Short Story Generator Collection Class was great. She is a fantastic instructor. I came away with plenty of constructive ideas for improving my stories, a bundle-full of useful reference materials, a superb reading list and nice dose of encouragement. It was a lot of work of the best kind, perfect for anyone serious about their writing. I got the most value from workshopping my stories and the stories of the other writers in the class. Chaya skillfully manageed the delicate job of allowing plenty of freedom while keeping us on a constructive track. Of equal value was Chaya's insights into our stories. Her comments were reliably clear, insightful, and usefully constructive. There's no mistaking her talent for analysis and her understanding of the field. I feel fortunate that I happened to land in this class (and the one last Fall)."
"I just finished Writing Through Parenthood with Katie Reilly. She is a great facilitator and very engaging. Between the the the wealth of resources, Katie's expertise and experience, the readings and encouragement on ways to grow and develop my writing, I can't recommend this class enough. I've taken a lot of classes through Writing Workshops, and this was one of the best. Thank you!"
"After taking the Revision Intensive workshop with Ploi Pirapokin, I've developed a new understanding for the revision process that motivates me to be more patient with my stories. Ploi's class was very comprehensive and it's useful that we will receive the course materials for deeper review. I liked the inclusion of Wet Ink and how it offers the possibility to connect with others in the cohort. What a great class!"
"Janine Annett's Funny at 40 (or beyond) seminar was fantastic, and so is Janine. I walked away with a bunch of ideas and the plan to try to get published. I also appreciate the resources that were sent out after the class concluded."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you for this time. The Short Story Collection Generator with Chaya Bhuvaneswar has re-energized and refocused me. It was just what I needed to reignite my passion for writing and take my work to the next level."
"Thank you, Ploi, for the time you spent teaching this Revision Intensive and for encouraging us to pursue their ambitions. Thank you for also being you!"
"Thank you so much for the Revision Intensive: Polish Short Stories for Submission course, Ploi Pirapokin! I'm very happy that I found it and that there was still space when I signed up. I found it challenging, invigorating, and inspiring, and overall a special experience for me in my writing journey. I really appreciate your insights both on writing craft and writing life, and I know I'll be mulling over our class material and referencing it for a long time."
"Just so you know, Ploi, I really appreciated the exercises you had us do in the Revision Intensive and the way you were able to give us a process for digging back into these pieces. Mine's been sitting for almost a year, and I was looking for a way back into it. I feel like I have a path forward on this one now!"
"Your Revision Intensive course was mind-opening, Ploi, and I wish you could continue to be my mentor. Thanks so much for your guidance and insights. It was a pleasure sharing my words and thoughts with you."
"I loved Katie Reilly's Nonfiction Seminar on writing the Personal Reported Essay. So much thought went into the the assigned readings. Katie's scaffolding and feedback on essay ideas, and Katie's feedback on the final draft were excellent. Highly recommend!"
“Thank you, Erica, for a fabulous class! I've learned so much about the writing process and relished the texts. Each class has helped awaken long-slumbering skills of analysis and muscles of creativity that I haven't exercised in some time. I'm especially grateful for the workshop portion, both for my own piece and for others. I've always been insecure about my writing style, but these classes have really boosted my confidence and filled my well of creativity. The workshop notes I received validated my process and helped magnify the paths to take next. I'm so grateful to Erica and the writing coven that is forming through these classes.”
"I took the Getting Published with Limited Clips seminar with Katie Reilly. It was excellent. The most valuable part of the seminar was the personalization to every attendee, and the guest editor that Katie brought in was golden."
"Participating in Naphisa's 'Manipulating Time in Fiction' workshop has been transformative for my writing. Her expertise in pacing and structure helped me understand how to effectively compress and expand time within my narratives, giving them new depth and resonance. I'm walking away with valuable feedback, new writing friends, and several pieces I'm excited to develop further."
"I just finished Janine Annett's Funny at 40 (or beyond) class and thought it was one of the best classes I've taken. I loved her pointers on how to generate ideas for stories and techniques to add in humor to my writing. I'm glad she was willing to send both her slides as well as lists of the books she referred to AND places we can submit our humorous work. I love your classes. Nice to be able to choose from single sessions to longer classes. Instructors are great! Thanks!"

"I enjoyed Naphisa Senanarong's lectures and power points about different ways to express time in fiction. I also enjoyed having a published short story to discuss in class each week. I thought she ran the workshop part of the class very well. She set up an environment where we felt safe having people discuss our work and give us feedback in a positive and nurturing environment."
“With Erica’s mentorship, I am now attending the MFA program of my choice and have published several of my poems. She saw potential where I did not, and she pushed me out of my comfort zone by encouraging me to write creative non-fiction. She taught me to trust in my own writing and the fact that my stories are valuable on their own. I fell in love with creative non-fiction because of her. Not only did Erica spend an ample amount of time with me (more than she had to!), she provided me with pages of written feedback that helped me revise and assist in the publication process. I am a much stronger, more confident writer since working with Erica, and am successfully pursuing a career in the field of creative writing.”
"McKenzie Schwark's 'Gay Bones: Writing the Queer Body' class offered space to explore and express my queer identity through writing. The readings were thought-provoking and diverse, providing a solid foundation for our lively and supportive discussions. I left the class not only with a richer understanding of queer narratives but also with a renewed sense of empowerment to tell my own stories about my body and experiences."
"I signed up for Elissa Bassist's Tragedy Plus Time seminar, and the readings/examples, resources, and lecture combined created a ton of value!"
“Erica helped me with my applications to MFA programs in Creative Writing. With her assistance, I was accepted or waitlisted to every place I applied, and I'm now a student in my top-choice program. Throughout our work together, Erica was empathetic, challenging, and generous. She helped me to present myself with confidence and clarity. Her feedback was always specific and extensive, and I know the advice she gave me was critical to the success of my applications. I'm sure these skills transfer over to her classes together. I can't recommend working with Erica enough!"
"Elissa Bassist was so generous with her time and her expertise, not only during the seminar (Tragedy Plus Time), but with the handouts before the class. It really energized my current project. I could have spent another hour listening to her. As an organization, you're doing great! Everything worked great... easy to sign up, easy to access. Thanks so much!"
"Manipulating Time in Fiction was a great course! Naphisa Senanarong's feedback on my writing was extremely helpful, and her lectures were very informative. I would highly recommend her classes."
"Publishing class with Jill Talbot was amazing. Chock-a-block with useful, practical, real-world tips. She also gave us a look behind the scenes at what editors look for. Can't wait to use all her resources! And, Jill was fun, funny and warm. Really, what more can you ask for?"
"The Best Practices in Self-Publishing: How to Bet on Yourself Without Going Broke seminar with David Hopkins had a lot of very good information with a knowledgeable, amiable host. Good use of examples with support. No unnecessary 'fillers'. He covered A LOT in the amount of time that he had, and I will definitely recommend this class to other writers I know."
"My mentorship with Chloe Caldwell was truly my greatest workshopping experience yet. As a professional copywriter, essay writing has become a passion project I do on the side for my own fun, and hadn't much considered publishing until Chloe gave me the confidence to pitch to my dream publication—and they took it! From her extensive and wildly helpful in-line edits to just chatting on the phone about my seemingly endless ideas, Chloe's mentorship has left me a better, more confident, and more inspired writer. Run! Don't! walk! to sign up for her next mentorship."
"I loved Sage Tyrtle's seminar, Caged Words: Creative Constraint, and would highly recommend this class to any writer looking for inspiration. Sage was extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful and provided meaningful feedback. Plus, her prompts were great."
"One of the more creative workshops I have ever taken. Amber Sparks really got me to think in different and creative ways. It was the right class at the right time for me."
"Poetry workshop with Rosebud was a wonderfully exciting and supportive space where I felt safe enough to experiment and take risks with my poems. Her writing prompts provoked me to ask deeper questions of myself and the class helped me grow immensely, both as a reader and a poet. The syllabus was rich in poetry, essays, music, and videos that encouraged lively classroom discussion and powerful, engaged writing. What strikes me most about Rosebud is her big-hearted generosity and genuine interest and delight in having her students succeed."
"I so enjoyed the Caged Words seminar with Sage Tyrtle. There were so many fantastic prompts! I take A LOT of workshops, and it's always a bummer when the prompts are boring, simplified, basic and taken out of a bad book on Amazon. Sage's prompts were so fantastic, and there were so many of them. She opened the floor for sharing but didn't push anyone, she gave supportive and enthusiastic feedback and gave very detailed instructions for difficult, involved prompts."
"I took Gay Bones: Writing the Queer Body with McKenzie Schwark. Her class exceeded my expectations. The readings were beautiful and the discussion well-led. The reading material paired with our personal writing really spoke to me. I would highly recommend this class."

"Rosebud is by far one of the best mentors I’ve had in a workshop setting. Her materials are thought-provoking and inspirational, and they challenge students to explore, play, and experiment. Her comments are always insightful and she creates a supportive environment where students are encouraged to be themselves, as well as to interact with each other both within and beyond the workshop. She’s generous in her feedback and with the time she dedicates to each student and is always willing to answer questions and help in any way she can."
"I really enjoyed Amber Sparks' workshop on Fractured Narrative! Great list of possible approaches to non-linear story-telling with helpful references to specific author's works as examples. Good exercises. Really enjoyed the chat input from other attendees as well. Great value for the price."
"The 3-Week Query Course with literary agent Christopher Hermelin is well worth the time and money. You can go through book after book about how to get published, but nothing can compare with a professional agent providing up-to-date information on what is expected from queries right now. Mr. Hermelin gave a simple but streamline structure that was a game changer for my query. He also offers precisely what you can't get anywhere else--live feedback on your and your classmates' queries. My advice: pay as much attention to the advice he gives others as he gives you. By the end, you will be light years ahead of where you started."
"I loved Chaitali Sen's class on revision. It was wonderful! Organized, thoughtful and she gave us a rigorous and thoughtful approach to revision that focuses on refining our core ideas/themes. I loved the hand outs and activities!"
"I've had all good experiences during my journey with Writing Workshops, which started a year ago. The 3-month mentorship program, with Chloe Caldwell, was incredible. Chloe met me where I was in my writing and over the course of 3 months, I can see the takeaway and how I have grown. She was always an email away to answer questions, provide prompts, and suggest readings or magazines to look into. The line-edits on my submissions were thorough and the feedback encouraging. Thank you for this class!"
"Working with Joan has been an absolute gift. Her generative workshops are welcoming and fun, and I come away with drafts I can later craft into strong poems. Her prompts are rich and inspiring, beginning with stimulus poems from very cool poets, many of whom are new to me. This exposure to novel work is an exciting catalyst for my poetry. Her handouts are fabulous– filled with many more prompts and poems than we can cover in class. Joan creates a safe and supportive space for sharing work; her kindness is contagious!"
"I’ve attended over a dozen poetry workshops in person and online. The time I spent with Joan Kwon Glass was by far, the most productive, enriching and insightful for me as a poet. Her deep knowledge of lesser known poets took the class to a whole new level of inspiration. Joan set the tone immediately for a creative, safe and supportive environment. The structure of the class, gave everyone time to listen, write and the opportunity to share our work. Joan brought her focus, devotion and good humor to every session. Her organized presentation was also much appreciated. We were doing serious writing – and thanks to Joan’s teaching style- with light hearts."
“Joan Kwon Glass’s three-hour “New Woman Warrior Poetry” workshop was a transformative experience. She’s a warm, welcoming teacher who dives into the heart of poems; and every student seemed to come alive in the discussions. Joan’s imaginative prompts were fantastic— I’m still using them. Plus, her individual feedback was smart, unusually detailed and insightful. I recommend Joan’s workshop to poets at any stage of their writing career.”
“Joan is an incredibly kind, welcoming, and supportive teacher. Her classes are deeply engaging and well researched, and she introduces her students to a wide variety of poets and new and important work. Her generative prompts are inspiring, and she offers thoughtful and brilliant insight into work created in class.”
“I was so fortunate to be able to take a generative poetry writing course with Joan Kwon Glass. Joan led a wonderful, dynamic discussion each week, provided thoughtful, insightful feedback on poems drafted during the course, and created a syllabus full of inspiring prompts and poems to spark new work. I hope to take another class with her -soon!”
“I have had a broad range of experience with all kinds of classes, programs, and collaborations where everyone brings something personally important to the table to make progress on. You provided a space that opened up more and more every session, and I believe this is in part due to the universal respect you gave each and every one of our works. You smoothly identified what each poem was asking for and went beyond to foster new possibilities for us as poets. This lead each of us to grow not only as writers, but as gardeners of each other’s poetry as well. By encouraging us to look beyond what we want out of poems, and instead delve into what the poetry wants itself, your course became a yoga of honoring what’s said and unsaid. Thank you."
“I had the pleasure of taking Joan Kwon Glass’s Poetic Magic class. To say the experience was one of growth would be a gross understatement. In this generative workshop, I found a whole new way to look at my work while being exposed to new and exciting poems I had not yet discovered. This launched me into a writing frenzy, producing several poems I hope to see published in my newest collection! Not only was there ample time for writing, exploring others work, and workshop feedback, but Joan’s guidance as a patient and wise instructor with a humble and encouraging demeanor helped to elicit the best from each poem and poet. Her support and insight have been instrumental in my growth in the craft of poetry, and I can’t recommend her highly enough."

And, it was good that the classes were scheduled for a time that I could come to them even though I live in Australia."

“Jenessa knows how to identify the emotional truth of a book… She has an incredible work ethic. She’s open-minded, collaborative, intuitive, willing to challenge herself, and always respectful of deadlines. She’s worked with my other editorial colleagues at Guernica and the Rumpus — they have all had glowing things to say about her. It’s rare we get to work with a writer who is versatile, compassionate, unpretentious, yet rigorous. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity.”
"Jenessa is one of the most thoughtful and generous teachers I have ever worked with. She gently pushed me to go deeper into my writing, to think critically about my practice and who I am as an artist, while simultaneously creating a safe space to meet me exactly where I was. Jenessa provided extremely attentive and helpful feedback; her love of teaching and her enduring respect for her students was always felt."
“I have been so grateful to work with and be taught by Jenessa Abrams... I have taken several writing courses in my academic career, however Jenessa has offered the most in-depth, personal, and generative feedback of any writing professor I've had. Her in-line comments on my writing have made me feel incredibly known and I am so grateful for her keen eye to note where prose can be sharpened or deepened. Her presence made me feel immediately comfortable to take risks in my writing both in style and subject matter. I feel I have grown in so much confidence in my voice as a writer and I attribute so much of that to the encouragement and guidance I have received from Jenessa.”
“Mira’s skill at creating a safe and open space for writing and sharing is unlike any class I have taken. She has an arsenal of unique, generative prompts; endless source material; and unlimited inspiration from her own life (and our lives!). I come away from each class with a flowering list of things to write, research, and read. Mira understands how to appreciate and talk about details in writing and to guide the class in sequence with generous and helpful critique. She is an ace at leading discussions which never feel rushed. She manages the class time so that everyone is heard and encouraged. I highly recommend this empathetic and whip smart teacher. Happy bonus: she is as cool as heck. As a professional writer, I was looking for an awakening about my craft and my career. I got more than I bargained for: a gentle nudge, a kick in the pants, and a warm embrace. Writers at any level would be lucky to attend one of Mira’s workshops.”
“Mira’s micro-memoir class is powerful and empowering! Mira’s teaching has consistently helped me access my most true creative voice. Her prompts are pitch perfect—just the right balance of open-ended and focused. I come away from my time with her a wiser writer and full of inspiration. Mira’s feedback is encouraging and thoughtful; she’s authentically respectful, erudite, and has an infectious passion for the mot juste."
“Mira is magical. I’ve taken a number of her workshops, and even had the fabulous good luck to study with her in Paris last year. I continue to be blown away by her effervescence, creativity, and the absolute joy she brings to each workshop. Her prompts are thoughtful and imaginative, and her insights are invaluable. Plus, she is simply the warmest, most encouraging and talented writer and teacher I have ever known. You will walk away from her class with renewed enthusiasm and love for the craft of writing. I cannot wait to take another workshop with her!”
“It’s rare to come across a short writing class that leaves a long mark on my soul, but Mira’s did. Her prompts during class were unique, ones I’d not heard or written around before. And her gentle invitation for each of us to read aloud (if we wanted) led us to a place of unexpected closeness as a group of otherwise strangers. By the end of two hours, I couldn’t wait to read more of my classmates’ words, to give more time to the essay-lets I generated in class, and to sign up for more Mira. Time and money very, very well spent.”
"If you want to improve your writing, follow these steps: sign up for a class with Mira Ptacin, then do what she says. It’s that simple. Before enrolling in Mira’s class, I struggled to write anything personal, whether a short paragraph or a ten-page essay. I was timid, reserved, and uncomfortable sharing in public. Thankfully, Mira’s teaching completely changed my mindset. Through her technical skill, knowledge of the memoir genre, and unyielding empathy, she helped me break from my cocoon and share my story with the world. She is, without a doubt, the best writing teacher I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend her classes highly enough."
“Jenessa's unique gift as a teacher is the ability to identify and develop each individual student's talent and interests, even those they did not know they themselves had, and provide them with the skills to develop those very talents and interests. This pedagogy requires deep, careful attention and individualized assessments that meet students where they are; the exact opposite of an overly didactic and stifling one-size-fits-all approach. Having found her to be one of the most effective teachers I have worked with in many years, I have no doubt that any student would benefit immensely from having her as an instructor.”
"Jenessa exhibited genuine care for her students and pushed her students to do better. Throughout [her course], I found myself not only getting better at writing but also finding joy in writing."

Blake and Mike thought through the details of workshops, craft talks, one-on-ones, tours followed by dinners, the hotel’s location, and probably more that happened behind the scenes. They are gracious, generous, and funny! The workshop facilitators, Stuart and Diana, are personable and generous with their knowledge and experience. The other writers are now friends and writing buddies. I left Dublin full of happy memories and with a stronger vision for my novel-in-progress. Thank you for an outstanding week!" -Jenn G.

I will never forget what I gained during that short week, and will keep in touch with so many of the people I met. Thank you for an incredible experience!" -Anne H.
"I arrived in Dublin for the Writing Workshop a little uncertain about how it was going to work. It was my first time in a nonfiction workshop, and I only knew one other person. The experience exceeded my expectations: the meticulous planning and organization, the participants, and particularly, the instructors. Diana Spechler (my nonfiction workshop instructor) was a joy: straight-forward, knowledgeable, supportive and accessible. I left with a solid sense of how to approach my nonfiction work, but more importantly, I greatly appreciated Diana's support of my work in general. I would recommend the Writing Workshop in Dublin to anyone who wants to combine a week of exploration, history, new friends, and terrific instruction ." -Joanna S.

The overall experience, the inclusion of food and housing, the community that was built, the work we did -- thumbs up on everything!" -Catherine V.
"Best experience I've had as a writer. I have done writing workshops before, but nothing like this one. I received genuinely transformative feedback, knowledge, and social support around my writing and novel. I will always be grateful for all I gained, learned, and experienced in this workshop. I can wholeheartedly say that the amateur writer who came into this workshop is now a tremendously evolved amateur writer with a new lens on transferring thought into text. I learned so much about my own craft, and how to tailor the style, and plot points to better suit the story I want to tell. The adventures, authors, experiences, feedback, people, places and workshops were gratifyingly high quality. It felt safe being an amateur. I received transformative feedback on my current WIP which has greatly shifted the ways I write." -Enrique E.

Each of Rosie's lessons has been so eye-opening — about ideating, the writing process, editing, the industry, all of it! It's all truly invaluable. Plus, each lesson is so clear, concise, and encouraging — I'm excited to read them before I even receive them. And then I'm excited to get to work! It was especially inspiring/encouraging to hear from the guest editor, Noah. I know not all editors are as excited to work with first-time writers, but it's great to be able to put a kind face to the word "editor" - which can often sound scary, but shouldn't." -Ansley S.

It gave me tools to organize my mess of thoughts. Allie hits a perfect tone for constructive criticism which is both encouraging and challenging. Best of all, you can tell how much she loves writing and especially the characters. I fully recommend to anyone new to writing or anyone looking for focus and feedback."

"I found everything valuable in Jenny Bhatt's Historical Fiction workshop. Especially the articles explaining different elements of historical fiction as well as the exercises and the feedback."
"In the Graphic Novel & Comics 8-Week Workshop, I appreciated how Varud tailored the class based on our feedback to be more of a writer's room for us to share our ideas. Yet he also kept the conversations focused, provided goals, and shared many fantastic insights on how to improve our stories. I really liked how each homework assignment was designed to help us craft a pitch doc and presentation. I now have a rough draft that I can refine and pitch to a publisher. I appreciated the small class size and wouldn't want it to be any bigger. In the end there was four of us along with Varud which was perfect and each person received a lot of attention."

The experience has energized me about my writing and left me inspired." Amanda D.
"The workshop exceeded my expectations. The communication was excellent leading up to it, and Writing Workshops was on top of every detail. The nonfiction workshops was incredibly instructive and helpful, and I feel I learned a lot. The hotel was in a wonderful section of Paris, and the evening activities brought us closer as a group. The whole experience was life-changing (without sounding overly dramatic) and gratifying." -Ethan J.
"I am a published novelist, critic and journalist and taking a nonfiction workshop was really out of my comfort zone. I knew I'd learn something and become a better writer because of it, but I honestly didn't think I'd do anything with creative nonfiction beyond this week. Thanks to Chloe and my wonderful, encouraging cohort, I have changed my mind and am going to pursue creative nonfiction alongside my other writing endeavors. And of course, Paris is a positively dreamy place to write, walk, eat, drink and get inspired!" -Lauren W.

"I’ve been to a number of workshops in my writing career, and this one was by far the most inspiring! Not only was it right in the middle of literary Paris, but it attracted a diverse and wonderful group of writers. More than the city, their encouragement and critiques gave me such confidence in my work. I hope to take them, and Paris, along for many stories and novels to come. -Sage M."
"A week in Paris, in July, is there anything better? Yep, a non-fiction writing workshop with Mike and Blake! I learned, laughed, and drank a lot! My cohort was wonderful; I've made pals with a bunch of talented, supportive writers, and I can't wait to buy all their books and promote them on social media. Chloe Caldwell was fantastic, as expected, and I've come away from Paris with five weeks' worth of content for my Substack, a plan for my book, and the confidence that I'm not actually that bad at this writing lark!" -Becky C.
"Writing Workshops Paris absolutely made my summer! Both the staff and the participants were lovely, and all of the workshops, seminars, and optional activities were well-planned and well-executed.It was the perfect Parisian vacation, but with a slew of great suggestions on how to improve my writing for publication, and the added take away of what I feel will be lifelong friends and professional connections. I cannot overstate how much fun I had, and I'm returning home inspired and eager to apply all of the feedback I received to my work". - Becky R.

Aside from the magic of being in Paris, which cannot be understated, the amazing people I met were the best part of the week. Plus, there was the unexpected joy of bonding with fellow writers. Blake and Mike did an outstanding job. My only complaint was it was too short!" -Leslie R.
"The workshop gave me invaluable knowledge and insight into the art of writing. And even better that we got to do it is Paris!" -Karl H.

"Wonderful opportunity to visit and write in a new place, all while learning from some amazing instructors!" -Uwana I.
"Paris! The perfect place to dive deep into a writing practice, but also learn how to sustain that practice for a nourishing life. Wonderful instructors, sharp and funny cohort members, high-level writing and feedback...and, even more, connections to endure beyond the trip. What more could you ask for?" -Allyson N.
"Blake and Mike are two of the most efficient purveyors of fiction workshops I've had the pleasure of taking part in--as are their instructors. But I guess that is to be expected since like attracts like. Bravo performance." -Helen C.
"James Tate Hill's online class on nonfiction memoir was amazing. He has an incredible depth of knowledge to draw upon--writers both classic and contemporary--and his comments were always thoughtful, articulate and considerate. If you're interested in NF writing, this class will be a great benefit."
"Varud Gupta's Graphic Novel & Comics Workshop exceeded my expectations. It was a very helpful class. I found that the class provided structure and tent poles enabling me to write the first chapter of my story. I also think it's really important and illuminating when Varud spoke about his publishing experience."
"Chloe Caldwell is the best. I trust her as a friend, mentor, reader and essayist. If you ever have the chance to take a nonfiction workshop with her, I highly recommend it. She is a careful reader who goes above and beyond with helpful edits and notes, suggestions for further reading/lectures/ podcasts/ etc., and extensive and personalized conversations about both the product and its process. I was overwhelmed by how much editing my book of essays required but she helped to transform the process into something both manageable and enjoyable. There were times when I felt like she knew my work better than I did and her insight helped so much. I was thrilled to work with Chloe as both a friend and as someone who adores her writing and values her expertise."
"What an incredible class on writing satire! Carlos Greaves is an amazing instructor and challenged me to think about all the ways satire could be used to effectively communicate my thoughts, ideas, and opinions. I appreciate how he walked us through strategies and steps to take when we are setting ourselves up to write. I look forward to taking more classes with Carlos."
"Thanks to the inimitable Morgan Talty for making an Intro to Fiction workshop happen. An invaluable service that's well worth the cost in my opinion."
"I absolutely LOVED The Artist’s Way with Rex McGee. He is wonderful. He offers his time whether it’s in or out of class and encourages communication. He really helped me get out of my head and push myself outside of my comfort zone. I would recommend this class 100%. If you are thinking about it, think no more! You NEED this class!"
"Writing Memoir and Personal Essay for Publication was Amazing. James Tate Hill is a teacher extraordinaire. And boy, does he give good critique. My experience in the past with online workshops has been lousy. I have done three. In two cases the teacher was so so and in the third, teacher hardly did anything. Every week JT Hill commented, answered everyone's questions and gave GREAT feedback to participants writing. And the participants! Of the nine people in the class, almost everyone submitted superior writing, with as many as 4 people submitting pieces of work that were ready for publishing. Indeed, I suspect the only way they don't get published is because they are not persistent sending the work out. And that's what JT imparted to us at the end of the class, the importance of revision and sending out to publishers. This was such a great supportive workshop, so good that I am taking JT Hills Intro to Fiction starting soon. Looking forward to another GREAT experience."
"Your Crafting Compelling Openings in Fiction MasterClass with Gordy Sauer was a great use of time. Loved it. Thanks for offering and thanks to Gordy for the delivery!"
"Justin Balog is a gentle teacher whose poetry workshop I enjoyed and learned from. I am a beginner in poetry and the class size was just right to pose questions regarding one's work . I was introduced to new poems in each session."
"I really enjoyed my first Writing Workshop! I was surprised to find a class so perfectly geared toward what I needed and my skill and comfort level. I had no idea though of the inspiration, community, and support I would get from taking it. Lynne created an incredibly safe space for the class to come together, feel inspired, learn about ourselves and the craft of writing, and most importantly, to get us writing. I enjoyed the readings, and haven't felt this inspired to write in a long time. Well worth the cost and the risk of trying something new."
"I really enjoyed the Sci-fi writing class taught by Holly Walrath. The course material was extensive. The editorial feedback useful, and the assignments were inspirational. I would take this class again and still benefit from it."
"6-Week Online Seminar: The Artist's Way with Rex McGee. Week 1: 'What am I doing in this class? Week 6: 'I never want this class to end!' Bravo Rex, Bravo!"
"I always enjoy Wendi Aaron’s humor and her seminar on writing funny was excellent - she is personable and easy to listen to and always has valuable perspective."
"The three Writing Workshops online events that I've viewed recently have been excellent seminars on the art, craft, and business of writing. The Publishing in Literary Journals seminar by Blake Kimzey, the group's executive director, was one of the most helpful and informative writing workshops that I've attended. Kimzey generously shares honest insights and hands-on tips from his many successes and rejections as a writer. Great content."
"Took a poetry writing class with instructor Sarah Carson. It was very enjoyable. I liked learning more about poetry, exercises for writing it, and feedback from other students and the instructor, who also provided encouragement. Poetry isn't easy to write or understand, but the four-week class was fun, very good."
"Lisa Levy's class, "Pitch to Publication," was tremendous. She provided so many resources I'd never heard (and I thought I knew a lot!) Her concise, honest, and generous critique of my pitch was terrific. I instantly where I needed to improve it, and hadn't seen it prior. Amazing how insightful she is. I highly recommend her class and anything she teaches!"
"Loved the workshop with Cara Benson! I learned so much about Flash writing in the course. I feared it might be challenging to have an online course with no live component. Yet, Cara did amazing work to keep it engaging. She is supportive and gives helpful feedback. Highly recommended workshop to get into writing!"
"Joe Ide's description of the writing process --novels--was straightforward and hard hitting. He used his own experience and recommended mentor books for us. Well spent time."
"Ying Compestine's How to Manage Your Career & Sell What You Write seminar was amazing! Totally worth it. I got great tips on how to manage the business side of my writing career. I even got inspired to submit to an agency for the first time in years."
"My experience with Rosie J. Pova as my mentor has been unbelievably helpful. I am a mom and preschool teacher who has had stories and ideas swimming in my head for over a decade. I felt like I just needed the tools to make my stories come together and (maybe one day) get published. Rosie's knowledge of children's writing and the traditional publishing industry has been invaluable to me. She has truly helped pull these stories out of my head and pushed me to write them on paper in a way that I haven't done before. Her 8-week course that I took was also incredibly helpful to break down step by step "how-to" to accomplish this very daunting task of writing children's books. I feel very confident in her process and I hopefully will be one of her true success stories! I cannot recommend working with Rosie enough. If you do the work she assigns and follow what she recommends, you will come out of the mentorship with polished stories you can be proud of. I cannot thank her enough for her support."
"I LOVED The Art of Suspense course with Ryan David Jahn. His lectures clearly demonstrated the ideas he was teaching and all of his examples were helpful. His feedback was thoughtful and constructive. I would take any class that he teaches."
"Highly enjoyed and recommend the mentorship programs offered by Writing Workshops! Really inspiring. It felt like a mini MFA in three months!
"I just finished the Art of Suspense class taught by Ryan David Jahn. Before class began, I was a little skeptical about the online format because I had not done that before. I need not have worried. Reading my classmates' work and exchanging critiques was so much fun, and I don't think anything was lost because it was online. After all, we're writers! Ryan's lessons were insightful and inspiring, as were the texts we read for the class. All in all, I feel I took away much more than I was able to contribute, and that's a bargain in anyone's book. The platform we use, Wet Ink, was excellent. Thank you, Writing Workshops, and Ryan David Jahn for an excellent course experience."
"Justin Balog's poetry workshop was fantastic. He planned it well and created a great environment for feedback and creativity. Bravo to Justin!! So glad I invested time and resources in this workshop."
"Truly wonderful workshops! I was surprised at the level of instruction (teacher had a Ph.D) and engagement was really great. I am impressed and will be taking more workshops. THANK YOU for offering these!"
"I enjoyed the Magical Realism class with Alex Temblador. She was engaged with all of the participants from start to finish. I learned much from the writing exercises and feedback received. I would would gladly take another of her courses."
