Who is this class for?

This online writing workshop is for writers of all genres and all levels who want to build a more intentional, organized writing life. If you feel out of sorts or disorganized in your creative practice, this class will help you find a journaling method that works for you. All Levels welcome.

What to expect:

Journaling is proven to boost mental health and help focus your thoughts — and for writers, it can be so much more than that. In this creative writing workshop, you'll learn a range of journaling techniques geared specifically toward the writing life, exploring journaling not just as a way to process and track your thoughts, but as a method for improving your craft and building a sustainable career as a writer.

Writers are observers, and one of the best ways to keep track of your observations and ideas is through a dedicated writing journal. Over four weeks, we'll cover the fundamentals of journaling for writers: tracking your writing, managing large ideas and projects, tracking submissions, setting goals, revising in a journal, and more. Along the way, you'll experiment with popular journaling methods — from bullet journaling to morning pages — to discover the approach that fits your life.

This is a hands-on online writing class. You'll be asked to share one journaling exercise each week and to give and receive feedback on each other's work within our Wet Ink classroom. You may also want to pick up a simple notebook to try the techniques on your own.

What are the writing goals?

In this course, students will complete one journaling exercise per week, sharing their work and exchanging feedback with peers in the online classroom. By the end of the four weeks, students will have established a personalized journaling practice, tried multiple journaling methods, and set up a journal structure to carry their writing life into the new year. You'll receive feedback from the instructor on all assigned writing activities.

ONLINE COURSE STRUCTURE:

This class is asynchronous, meaning you complete the weekly assignments on your own schedule. There are no set meeting times to allow for greater participation; your cohort will consist of writers from different time zones, which allows for a wonderful diversity of voices.

Along with your weekly deadlines, there is plenty of interaction with the instructor and your peers within Wet Ink, our dedicated online classroom. Craft materials, lectures, reading assignments, and writing prompts are all available through the online classroom. Students also post work and provide and receive feedback in the online classroom.

You can finish the work as you see fit, week to week, which is perfect for any schedule. There are discussion questions each week inspired by the assigned readings and topics in the lecture notes. Students are encouraged to take these wherever they find most compelling and/or useful. The instructor engages with these discussions throughout the week, and you will receive feedback on all assigned writing activities.
