Celebrating Three Years as Electric Literature's Education Partner

by Writing Workshops Staff

When we announced our education partnership with Electric Literature in early 2023, we knew we'd found kindred spirits: a team as committed as we are to amplifying the literary community and nurturing writers into publication. Now, as we head into our third year as an official education partner, we're reflecting on just how far this collaboration has taken us.

From Online Workshops to International Retreats

What began as a shared commitment to making literature more exciting, relevant, and inclusive has grown into something extraordinary.

Current and former Electric Literature editors Kelly Luce and Alyssa Songsiridej have led our fiction workshops across the globe—in Dublin, Iceland, Tuscany, and Paris. Electric Literature's publisher, Halimah Marcus, has guided writers through our destination fiction workshop in Paris, France.

These aren't just workshops. They're immersive experiences led by editors who know exactly what it takes to get published, who understand the literary landscape from the inside out.

A Shared Vision, Real Results

Our partnership with Electric Literature is built on a shared mission: to help jump-start writing careers and bring writers out of the wilderness and into community.

The proof is in what our students have accomplished.

Our alumni have signed with agents, published books, and been selected for the TODAY Book Club and Read with Jenna.

They've gone on to funded MFA programs including The Iowa Writers' Workshop, The Michener Center for Writers, Syracuse, Michigan, NYU, Columbia, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, and UC-Irvine. They've been awarded fellowships from Tin House, The Vermont Studio Center, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, the National Book Critics Circle, PEN America Emerging Voices, Periplus, and The Elizabeth George Foundation, among others. They've won literary awards, including the Halifax Prize from American Short Fiction and the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction from Sarabande Books.

These aren't just statistics—they're writers whose lives have changed. You can read their stories on our Alumni Success Stories page.

The Best Instructors in the World

As an independent, artist-run creative writing school founded in 2016, we've always believed that who teaches matters as much as what's taught.

Our instructors are National Book Award and Pulitzer finalists, New York Times bestsellers, and contributors to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times, Pushcart Prize, and Best American anthologies. Our global platform enables us to attract the very best authors and teachers to guide you on your writing journey.

As recognized by The Writer's Chronicle, we are a great alternative to traditional MFA programs, and our partnership with Electric Literature only strengthens that position.

In the Press

Our programs have been featured in Literary Hub, Electric Literature, The London Review of Books, The Writer's Chronicle, Winning Writers, New Pages, Poets & Writers, Book Riot, the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP), Forbes, The Dallas Morning News, San Francisco Chronicle, D Magazine, KERA Art&Seek, Write or Die, and elsewhere.

Here's to Year Three

We're grateful to Electric Literature for being such an aligned partner in this work. Together, we'll continue to champion new voices, foster literary community, and help writers achieve their dreams.
