Great storytelling engages your reader and persuades your audience. Let bestselling fiction author Allie Pleiter show you how elements of fiction can give your nonfiction writing power, sparkle, and the ability to truly stick with your reader. Whether you write memoir, business, how-to, personal essay, or any other nonfiction, your work can have new vibrancy with techniques borrowed from your favorite novel.

This Five Day Challenge (6/17/24 - 6/21/24) will fill your writing toolbox with tactics designed to make your content engage, stick, and transform your reader. You want to make sure your book has the highest impact possible. Learn how strategies from the fiction world can make that happen.

In each of 5 daily sessions, you’ll not only learn these skills, you will have an opportunity to put them into practice! Each day will help you create content that is directly usable in your current project using vivid storytelling.

Day 1: Quick starts - You must grab your reader immediately. Learn how fiction writers pull in readers so your book becomes a page-turner in the first few paragraphs.

Day 2: Dialogue - Nothing conveys emotion, information, and context faster and more vividly than well-crafted dialogue. Learn how to create conversations that sound natural, evoke emotion, and turbo-charge the pace of your content.

Day 3: Description - How much is too much? Done right, description can draw your reader into the world of your ideas. Done wrong, it can drag down the pace and pull your reader off course.

Day 4: Plot twists - Readers love to be surprised. How can you craft your content to offer up exciting twists and turns to keep them learning from you all the way to the end of your book?

Day 5: Show, don’t tell - Some descriptions pack far more power than others. Learn how to show transformation and emotion in your case studies and stories for maximum impact.

  • Students will learn how to use dialogue in nonfiction, how to use description effectively, and how to craft openings that grab the reader's attention.
  • Nonfiction authors will learn techniques to add new depth, energy, and engagement to their work.
  • Sessions include both teaching and hands-on time to put new skills into practice.

This class is fabulous. So many tips that I never thought of. I was just writing my book w/o thought to techniques. Your tips are great and your presentation is wonderful. I love the 5 day journey. - Carolyn B

Allie’s Five Day Challenge workshop on using fiction techniques for non-fiction writers was incredible! I learned multiple helpful tips, strategies and useful tools to take into my writing and make it come alive. This is one of the most useful writing workshops I’ve taken. Allie gives you time to try it out along the way which is brilliant…because then she gives you versions to make it better and land the learning for you! I highly, highly recommend this workshop. - Ann-Marie A
