COURSE OUTLINE:

Week 1 - The Role of Place in Non-Fiction & Fiction: Analyze engaging travel articles. Discuss the influence of place in fiction through the lens of a notable fiction writer. 

Week 2 - Place as Inspiration: Explore depictions of place in non-fiction with a focus on food as a key aspect of place. Engage in discussions that spark creative ideas for your writing.  

Week 3 - Enhancing Fiction Through Travel: Learn about a fiction writer’s transformative travel experience and its impact on their work. Examine how settings in fictional excerpts can create immersive worlds.  

Week 4- Moving Forward with Your Writing: Get practical tips on advancing your travel-inspired writing. Review and discuss successful travel pitches to editors, focusing on what makes them stand out.

    The class is entirely asynchronous which means that there are no set meeting times and students work to their own schedules. Participants will be from different time zones, which allows for a wonderful diversity of voices. In addition to ongoing discussions, all craft materials, lectures, reading assignments, and writing prompts will be available in the Wet Ink classroom. Students will also post work and provide and receive feedback within the online environment.
