Congratulations to workshop alum Yvonne Liu. Her work was recently published at Insider, a powerful piece about keeping her breast cancer a secret for 28 years because of stigma in the Asian American community.
Yvonne is a writer based in Los Angeles. Over 1.5 million people read her HuffPost adoption essay and she was featured on the NYT Modern Love podcast this summer. Her work has appeared in the NYT, Salon, Newsweek, NBC THINK and elsewhere.

Describe your work (influences, interests, etc.) and what you're working on now.
I am passionate about writing to encourage others who have experienced trauma. Readers worldwide said my story has given them a voice. I am writing a memoir about overcoming a traumatic childhood filled with secrecy and shame about mental illness, adoption and childhood trauma.
What are your short term (1 year) and long term writing goals (5 years from now)?
Short-term -- Sign with a lit agent. 5-year - Become a traditionally published author and grow as a thought leader on mental illness, shame and stigma. Continue to write regularly at major outlets.
What class(es) did you take/are you taking with Writing Workshops?
Layering: A Structured Approach to Revision with Chaitali Sen and Fiction Technique in Memoir with Michelle Kicherer.
What did you enjoy most about your class(es) with Writing Workshops?
Great teachers and great camaraderie.
