A creative writing workshop that seeks to have regular weekly climate actions we take also serves as the weekly prompt for our own fiction.

It’s a common critique that art does nothing. However, this unique creative writing workshop intertwines the urgency of climate action with the transformative power of fiction.

Students are encouraged to engage in weekly climate-related actions within their communities, addressing the pressing environmental issues of our era. These real-world experiences will serve as the foundation for crafting compelling ecofiction, fostering a blend of activism and artistry.

The experience of these weekly actions will then inform fiction that the class will workshop.

COURSE OUTLINE:

Week 1: Introduction. What's led us to this present moment? Brainstorming environmental actions.

Week 2: The present moment. Report back on actions. First workshop.

Weeks 3 - 6: Update on actions. Workshop.
