Led by Sarah Herrington, a writer and teacher whose work has appeared in the New York Times Modern Love, Anxiety, Solver Stories and OpEd columns, the LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Tin House, Slice, Nylon, Los Angeles Review of Books, Interview, Poets & Writers, O, The Oprah Magazine, and other publications. She's the author of four books on yoga and spirituality. She holds an MFA from New York University, where she was a Goldwater Fellow, an MFA from Lesley University, and teaches writing at Fordham. Her students have been published in the NYTimes, LATimes, won awards, and sold books to major presses like Dial and Simon and Schuster. In addition to teaching writing, she has taught yoga and meditation for fifteen years and will bring this lens to The Portal winter program.

The Portal features amazing guest teachers, writing workshops, community, & coaching.

The Portal is a seasonal space for writing, healing, and creative community among women and female-identifying writers. We focus both on product (publication and craft) and process (the inner life of the writer, sustainable creative practices, healing modalities for care).

This immersive program includes: • Writing workshops with feedback • Guest teachers from both creative and healing disciplines • Two one-on-one coaching sessions • A private Slack space for connection between meetings

Writers from The Portal have gone on to publish in Vogue, The New York Times, complete book proposals, and explore new genres and projects. Think: a nourishing winter adventure of craft + heart.

Alongside workshop and feedback, several sessions and recorded offerings introduce healing modalities for the creative life—previous topics include meditation tools for writers, restorative yoga, tarot, and sustaining yourself as an artist. We pair the rigor of writing with the care required to keep going.

Think a nourishing winter adventure of craft and heart.

Alongside writing, learning about craft, and getting feedback on your work, you'll be invited to several workshops focusing on "healing" or sustaining ourselves as creative practitioners (typical talks include: meditation tools for writers, restorative yoga for writers, tarot for writers, how to care for yourself as an artist and more.)

This course combines the rigor of writing with the care we must extend ourselves to keep going as writers.

WHAT: An immersive seasonal program to deepen your writing life. By the end, you'll have completed a significant portion of a project or created a packet of new work—plus a personal writing practice to carry forward. Expect play, exploration, and writing from the inside out.

HOW: Weekly classes, continuous community support, two one-on-one coaching sessions, and visits from award-winning teachers in both creative writing and healing modalities.

WHO: You! The Portal welcomes both experienced and brand-new writers across genres—nonfiction, fiction, poetry and hybrids. Bring a blank page or a full draft; come as you are. This is a magical space to commune with your muse, elevate your craft, and get real work done.

WHY: Because you do not have to do this alone. Feel supported, accountable, and creatively alive in community.

WHEN: February 3 – April 14, 2026. Tuesday evenings, 7–9:15 PM EST on Zoom. Slack space active throughout the season and beyond. One-on-ones individually scheduled.

PROGRAM ELEMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Weekly Tuesday classes on Zoom (writing workshops, guest teacher sessions)
  • Two one-on-one coaching/office hours sessions
  • Private Slack channel for support + sharing
  • Accountability partners
  • Publishing + pitching guidance
  • Guest teachers: award-winning authors + healing artists
  • Room to experiment and write across genres
  • Structure and discipline to meet your writing goals

By the end, you will…

✔ Feel more connected to your creativity and voice

✔ Carry a refreshed toolkit of self-support for writing life

✔ Belong to a new creative community
