Today, we're catching up with Laila Dollé. She is French of Moroccan descent and grew up in Provence until she moved to Reims for her Master’s in business, then Paris to work as a foreign risk underwriter. Laila relocated to London in 2000 to work in finance until her employer, investment bank Lehman Brothers, went bankrupt. She eventually left London for Dakar in 2016 where she immersed herself in Senegalese culture, francophone African literature and took up surfing. After moving to Dallas, Laila enrolled in classes at Writing Workshops and set out to write novels featuring seldom represented voices.
Laila is now a student in our 3-Month Novel Bootcamp with Harper Collins novelist Seraphina Nova Glass. Laila's work is influenced by European and African literature, and she is currently working on a historical novel based in 60s Morocco. Laila has also taken an Intermediate Novel Workshop and a Finding Your Voice class with Lynne Golodner. She says, "I have felt like the workshops were a safe space to grow as a writer and I'd like to finish editing my novel and write the sequel."
