You love to write, or perhaps you find it torture. Either way, you wish you were doing more of it. Fall is great time to get back to work on your own writing and reaffirm your intention to write more.
In this generative writing class, we'll get you writing again through tools, exercises, and discussions from famous creativity and writing experts such as Natalie Goldberg, author of "Writing Down The Bones" and Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way." Those include exercises in class that will get you writing no matter what, how to write a messy first draft, and the five writing rules. You will also create a writing practice tailored to your own habits and schedule.
This class is for anyone who wants to write or write more. It's part experiential writing, part lecture, and part getting to know yourself (to get the blocks out of the way.)
Bring a pen and paper or a laptop. We will be writing by hand at first, but you can bring your laptop if you prefer it. You'll be glad you took the plunge.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Week One: Practical Tools to Get Your Pen Moving
Week Two: What Kind of Writer Are You? Creating A Writing Practice
Week Three: Art of the Idea: How To Figure Out What You are Meant to Write About
Week Four: Creating That Messy First Draft
COURSE TAKEAWAYS:
- A few takeaways include exercises to help you get unstuck, learning about your writing habits, and breaking free of what is blocking you.
- You'll come to know what kind of writer you are and how to create a writing practice tailored to you.
- Join a community of other like minded writers -- you are not alone!
TESTIMONIALS:
"Jennifer Mattson's Get Unstuck, Start Writing Again seminar was by far the best workshop I’ve attended. Jennifer is smart, supportive, empathetic, and experienced as a writer and teacher. Thank you for a great session. By the way, the first exercise resulted in a very good draft for me. Writers need this workshop.” -former student
"The hands-on practice using writing rules to establish a writing practice is something I'll take with me. Jennifer is a great instructor! If you're looking to get unstuck in your writing practice, take this class." -former student

"I loved the Get Unstuck seminar with Jennifer Mattson. I found the prompts extremely valuable and enjoyed hearing her perspective and examples. It opened up my mind to the variety of ways a person can be a writer and helped me tune in more clearly to what I need to help me be productive. It was surprising how much I gained from just two hours. More than some multi-week courses I’ve taken!" -former student
