Two of our most popular genre classes are Power & Politics in Speculative Fiction and Writing Speculative Short Fiction. If you found this blog post you probably write Science Fiction or Fantasy. And, if you're working on a novel but you don't have an agent, fear not! The nine excellent publishers below accept direct submissions. Read their guidelines closely, polish your manuscript, and get it in their submission queue!

Angry Robot

Angry Robot is a respected science fiction and fantasy publisher. They are a global imprint dedicated to the best in modern adult science fiction, fantasy and WTF?! Based in London and selling to the world, all their titles are available in paperback and DRM-free eBook. Submission guidelines here.

Baen
Baen Books has been bringing readers pulse-pounding, thought-provoking adventures straight from the heart of science fiction and fantasy for decades. They publish books in hardcover, paperback, and electronic form, and are one of the few traditional publishers that maintains its own ebooks webstore. Submission guidelines here.

Berkley

Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, has open reading periods at specific times throughout the year. They seek full-length adult novels in the following genres: romance, women’s fiction, mystery, suspense and thrillers, horror, science fiction, and fantasy.  Submission guidelines here.

DAW

DAW is an imprint of Penguin. They accept unsolicited submissions of science fiction and fantasy novels. They cannot consider short stories, short story collections, novellas, or poetry. The average length of the novels they publish varies, but is almost never fewer than 80,000 words. Submission guidelines here.

Jo Fletcher Books

Jo Fletcher Books is part of the Quercus family, a small but perfectly formed list publishing the very best in science fiction, fantasy and horror. JFB authors are writing critically acclaimed, award-winning and unputdownable novels right across the fantastical spectrum, encompassing everything from crime to literary fiction.
