Congratulations to workshop alum Charlene Logan! Her creative nonficiton piece, "Proper Shoes," appears in the Winter 2023 issue of The Baltimore Review!
Charlene Logan's work has appeared in Witness Magazine, Blackbird, Natural Bridge, WomensArts Quarterly, and other magazines and journals. She received a fellowship from McDowell and earned an MFA in playwriting from UC Davis. She grew up on the East Coast but now lives in Northern California.

Describe your work (influences, interests, etc.) and what you're working on now.
I wrote this piece in Jill Talbot's class, Grieving the Quotidian. I've also taken a weekend class wit her, A Map, A Snapshot, A Mirror: The Relationship between Writing Place and Writing the Self. I've mostly written fiction and was always a bit suspect of writing about self, or memoir. I've changed my mind--it's actually a very freeing, fluid way of writing for me. I like the way one can so easily play with structure. In my quest to learn more, I'm presently in Kate Hill Cantrill's class, Writing about Family.
What are your short term (1 year) and long term writing goals (5 years from now)?
Short term: write a number of essays. Long term: put together a collection of connecting essays on family, and hopefully get it published.
What class(es) did you take/are you taking with Writing Workshops?
Jill Talbot: Grieving the quotidian and A map, a snapshot, a mirror; Kate Hill Cantrill's class on writing about family. There's been a few others. I've popped into Blake Kimzey's video course on Publishing (which is why I was motivated to fill out this form!)
What did you enjoy most about your class(es) with Writing Workshops?
Lots of classes. Reasonably priced. Great way to stay connected to other writers. Learn something new. When I've been away from writing and falling into a slump, I look for a class to get energized again. No excuses anymore with WW and Zoom.
