Discover the art of memoir writing in this immersive 10-week online class led by Blaise Allysen Kearsley, who brings her vast experience and unique voice to the course, offering students an unparalleled opportunity to learn memoir writing from a seasoned professional. This class is designed for both budding and experienced writers, providing a rich, text-based, and asynchronous learning environment complemented by three vital Zoom check-ins and writing sessions that foster a collaborative and engaging online community.

Throughout the course, writers will embark on a structured journey into memoir writing, with each week dedicated to exploring different facets of the craft. From mastering the art of character portrayal to navigating the complexities of time and place, the curriculum is meticulously crafted to cover a wide range of topics essential for memoir writing. Participants will gain access to weekly lessons, recommended readings, and writing prompts that are carefully selected to inspire new work or deepen existing projects. The course emphasizes the importance of drawing multi-dimensional characters, artful descriptions, and the delicate process of mining one’s memory, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

Moreover, the inclusion of readings from acclaimed authors like James McBride and Nicole Chung adds depth and diversity to the learning materials, enriching participants' understanding and appreciation of the genre.

One of the course's standout features is its supportive structure, which includes the opportunity for peer and instructor feedback and the assignment of accountability partners to keep participants motivated. The Zoom meetings scheduled for weeks 1, 5, and 10 offer a dynamic platform for live interactions, writing sessions, and direct engagement with Kearsley and fellow classmates. By the end of the 10 weeks, students will have honed their memoir-writing skills and created valuable new pages, learned to view their work through readers' eyes, and discovered a diverse array of writers. This course promises to be an inspiring journey, unlocking the potential within each writer to craft compelling, authentic stories drawn from the well of their experiences.

You'll have weekly access to lessons along with recommended readings and writing prompts to generate new work or dig deeper into work-in-progress. Each lesson will focus on different tools of the craft, including drawing multi-dimensional characters that a reader can "see," navigating time and place, the art of description, and mining your memory.

Each participant will have an opportunity to submit work for peer and instructor feedback, and everyone will be assigned an accountability partner.

We'll also have Zoom check-ins and writing sessions during weeks 1, 5, and 10.

Readings include short excerpts from texts by James McBride, Johanna Adorjan, Melissa Febos, Nicole Chung, and more.

This workshop is a text-based, asynchronous memoir 101 course that will include three virtual check-ins and writing sessions via Zoom, covering a multitude of craft elements.
