Do you have a book in you? In this class, participants will learn valuable insight into the traditional publishing world and how to best position and sell their own books.

Students will learn how to choose and query agents, how to refine their elevator pitch, and how to identify potential editors at publishing houses.

We will discuss the different process for fiction and nonfiction books as well as how to build a writing portfolio that gets noticed.

We'll also read excerpts from Before and After the Book Deal by Courtney Maum.

COURSE OUTLINE:

In this one day class (three hours), we will focus on getting our books (or books in progress) ready to be sold to a publisher. Through writing prompts, real time feedback from the instructor and other attendees, and craft talks and discussion, students will make real progress on assembling the pieces needed to seal the deal with an agent and/ or publisher.

COURSE TAKEAWAYS:

  • Through the in class writing prompts and discussions, students will leave class with a two to three sentence elevator pitch for their books, an outline of an agent query letter, and their short writer's bio.
COURSE TESTIMONIALS:

"Cameron is incredible. Her feedback and support as you develop your writing is amazing."” — former student
