Accessibility Statement
Writing Workshops wants every writer to be able to find a class, enroll, and take part. That includes people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.
The standard we work toward
We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG 2.2 includes every requirement of WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the level used by EN 301 549, the European standard for accessible digital services. We treat accessibility as ongoing work, not a one-time project.
What we have done
In September 2026 an independent consultant, Ethercycle, audited and remediated this website against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The audit combined automated scanning with manual testing: keyboard-only use of the full enrollment path, focus visibility, color contrast measured on the rendered page, zoom to 200%, and small-screen reflow.
Following the audit we:
- wrote descriptive alternative text for every image on our published classes, including the words that appear inside class graphics
- gave every link and button an accessible name
- labeled our menu and cart panels for screen readers and corrected where keyboard focus goes when they close
- fixed text contrast that fell below the required ratio
- named the question groups and required fields on our application forms
- made sure form fields identify their purpose so browsers can fill them in
Known limitations
- Screen reader testing. Our changes were tested with automated tools and by hand with a keyboard. A full review by a person using a screen reader has not been done yet. It is planned as the next step.
- Chat and account buttons on small screens. On very narrow screens, the floating chat and account buttons can cover page content until you scroll. We have reported this to the companies that provide them.
- Checkout and express payment buttons. Checkout is provided by Shopify, and the Shop Pay, PayPal, and Amazon Pay buttons are provided by those companies. We cannot change them. Shopify publishes accessibility information for its checkout.
- Third-party tools. Our chat, discount popup, account menu, and application forms come from other companies. We have corrected what we can from our side and are reporting the remaining problems to the vendors.
- Images that contain words. Some banners and class graphics are images with text in them. The text is provided as alternative text, but it cannot be resized or recolored on its own.
- Older content. We publish a large archive of blog articles and pages. Not every older article has been reviewed.
- Live classes. Classes meet on Zoom, which offers live captions. If you need an accommodation for a class or a retreat, tell us before you enroll and we will work it out with you and your instructor.
