How do we think about scale in our poetics? What do notions of scale include? How can we take abstract ideas and make them intimate or vice versa? How can the through-lines of memory or experience serve each poem? How can we structure associative logic or objects of lyric refraction to grapple with these ideas and transform the inner self?
In this workshop, we will consider questions of scale using contemporary examples from influential poets. Using our observations and insights from these examples, we will then turn to our own work to see how scale can be managed through craft.
Once a week we will convene with 1-2 examples of contemporary work. We will then think about these poems in terms of our own poetic craft, giving feedback and guiding each other’s work to the fullest potential in a collaborative, discussion-based workshop environment.
